Bids for the league’s TV rights from 2024 onward are being decided today with three broadcasters leading the way in private negotiations with Serie A. The Lega is preparing to decide on bids for TV rights and private negotiations will be staged today, after the first round of bids failed to reach the guaranteed minimum that would have forced the League to accept.
The negotiations, which will involve DAZN, Sky and Mediaset, will be held today, starting in the morning at a hotel in downtown Milan.
There will be five members of the committee of executives and presidents who will negotiate with the broadcasters, along with Lega CEO Luigi De Siervo:
Atalanta with CEO Luca Percassi;
Inter with the club’s legal counsel Angelo Capellini;
Lazio with patron and president Claudio Lotito;
Napoli with patron and president Aurelio De Laurentiis;
Udinese with vice president Stefano Campoccia.
CalcioeFinanza report that another key aspect is that private negotiations may change the package situation. The Lega Serie A, in an effort to try to maximize profit, will not be strictly tied to the bids that broadcasters have submitted for individual options: in fact, the goal remains to cash in as much as possible, and to do so the League may also combine packages differently to reach the desired target, which could be around €900 million (considering that in previous auctions it has always been just over 900 million).
The notice on TV rights explains that “the phase of private negotiations shall be held on a single day, subject to extensions due to organizational needs, at the headquarters of the Lega Serie A or at another location communicated in advance. Participating parties:
- must present appropriate documentation proving that they have the necessary powers to bind their respective Bidders in private negotiations and, if necessary, to sign the Bid upon its completion. Said documentation shall be previously verified by the notary public appointed by Lega Serie A;
- shall be heard by the Lega Serie A assisted by its consultants and any representatives of the Sporting Clubs and the appointed notary public, in a single space-time context but separately in special rooms equipped with computers and printers and fixed telephony. Any changes made to the composition of the Packages or to the minimum bid prices for the Packages shall be communicated by the Lega Serie A to all participants in the Private Negotiation;
- at the end of the Private Negotiation each of the participants may submit its own Offer by delivery of sealed envelope to the Notary, who shall proceed to open it in the following hour. The Offer made by the Bidder at the end of the Private Negotiation must be binding, irrevocable, unconditional and in accordance with the requirements of Articles 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3.”
