Serie A | Torino 1-1 Genoa: Match Report

Start

Torino’s curious run of form continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Genoa at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino. The Granata extended their unbeaten streak since December 21, but have only managed one win in their last six matches.

The home side took the lead just before halftime when a Valentin Lazaro corner resulted in an own goal by Genoa’s Morten Thorsby. However, the visitors equalized in the second half through Andrea Pinamonti, who capitalized on a defensive error by Saul Coco.

Torino had several chances to secure all three points, with Che Adams coming close on multiple occasions. The match also saw the debut of new signings Cesare Casadei and Cristiano Biraghi, who were introduced in the final 20 minutes. Casadei, recently acquired from Chelsea, nearly made an immediate impact but narrowly missed a header in stoppage time.

The game was not without controversy, as Torino had two penalty appeals waved away in the closing stages. Adams and Antonio Sanabria both felt they were fouled in the box, with Sanabria’s shirt apparently being tugged, but the referee and VAR decided not to intervene.

Genoa, who were missing several key players due to injuries and suspensions, will be pleased with the away point. The result leaves both teams in mid-table positions as they continue to navigate through a competitive Serie A season.

The draw highlights Torino’s struggle to convert their solid performances into victories, a trend they’ll be keen to reverse in upcoming fixtures. Meanwhile, Genoa’s resilience away from home could prove crucial in their bid to secure their top-flight status for another season.
