Lega Serie A president Lorenzo Casini has spoken out against the potential scrapping of the Growth Decree. The beneficial tax relief allows clubs to pay less tax for players arriving from abroad. paying 31% in tax, rather than 50%.
Speaking at a press conference today at the end of the assembly in which issues not on the agenda were also discussed, Casini said:
“The government has sent a draft legislative decree to parliament with the abolition of the benefit from 1 January 2024, without prejudice to existing contracts. Today the issue was widely discussed and unanimously the clubs confirmed their opposition to the abolition of this benefit.”
“It was decided to prepare a document highlighting the damage caused by this possible measure (the abolition, ed) and the fact that it penalises the growth of young players. A document that we will send to provide useful elements to arrive at a decision.
“At the moment it will be abolished from the next market session, the next contracts at the moment will not be able to have the benefit that has proved to be an important tool. It has already been applied for 13 months to contracts over €1 million,” Casini concluded.
