Serie A | Roma 2-1 Venezia: Match Report

Start

In a hard-fought Serie A encounter, Roma managed to overturn a deficit and claim a morale-boosting 2-1 victory against Venezia at the Stadio Olimpico. The win marks an important milestone for new coach Ivan Juric as he continues to settle into his role with the Giallorossi.

The match began with Venezia taking an early lead through Joel Pohjanpalo, who capitalized on a rebound after Gianluca Busio’s strike hit the post. The visitors looked dangerous throughout the first half, nearly doubling their advantage just before the break.

Roma struggled to find their rhythm in the opening period, with the team leaving the pitch at halftime to a chorus of jeers from the home crowd. The Curva Sud, Roma’s most vocal supporters, remained silent for the first 15 minutes of the game in protest of Daniele De Rossi’s recent dismissal.

The second half saw Roma gradually increase the pressure on Venezia’s defense. The equalizer came in fortunate circumstances when Bryan Cristante’s long-range effort took a significant deflection off Busio, looping over goalkeeper Jesse Joronen and into the net.

The comeback was completed by young talent Niccolò Pisilli, who had been threatening with headers from corner kicks throughout his time on the pitch. The Roma youth product finally found the back of the net with a well-placed header from Leandro Paredes’ set-piece delivery, scoring his first Serie A goal and sending the Olimpico into raptures.

This victory will undoubtedly boost Roma’s confidence as they look to climb up the Serie A table under Juric’s guidance. For Venezia and their manager Eusebio Di Francesco, it’s a disappointing result after their recent win against Genoa had provided some respite from their struggles this season.
