Serie A | Lazio 1-2 Fiorentina: Match Report

Start

Fiorentina secured a crucial away victory against Lazio, reigniting their campaign with a 2-1 win in a fiercely contested match at the Stadio Olimpico. The Viola, donning their red away kit, struck early through Yacine Adli and Lucas Beltran to establish a commanding lead.

Adli opened the scoring with a volley that eluded Ivan Provedel’s grasp, capitalizing on a defensive lapse by Adam Marusic. Beltran doubled Fiorentina’s advantage shortly after, heading home a precise cross from Dodo.

Lazio, coming off a strong Europa League performance, struggled to find their rhythm in the first half. Albert Gudmundsson nearly extended Fiorentina’s lead with an acrobatic effort that struck the woodwork.

The second half saw Lazio increase pressure, with substitutes Pedro and Nicolò Rovella injecting new energy into their attack. However, Fiorentina’s defense, led by David De Gea, held firm despite some nervy moments.

A controversial incident occurred when Adli, already substituted, received two yellow cards in quick succession for time-wasting and unsportsmanlike conduct. This unusual situation left Fiorentina unaffected numerically but will result in Adli’s suspension for their next match against Genoa.

As the match neared its conclusion, tension escalated. Lazio finally breached Fiorentina’s defense in added time when Adam Marusic headed home from close range. The goal set up a frantic finale, with both teams’ coaching staff receiving red cards amidst the chaos.

In the dying seconds, Pedro came agonizingly close to equalizing, his shot striking the inside of the post and rolling along the goal line before bouncing out, leaving Fiorentina to celebrate a narrow but significant victory.
