Serie A disciplinary actions: Fiorentina fined for racist chants

Start

The Italian Serie A’s disciplinary committee has handed out several fines and suspensions following the 18th round of matches, with Fiorentina receiving the most severe punishment for racist chants directed at a Juventus player.

Fiorentina was fined €20,000 after their supporters engaged in discriminatory chanting towards an opposing player during the 6th minute of their match against Juventus. The incident forced the referee to suspend the game for approximately two minutes. According to the federal prosecutor’s collaborators, about 30% of the 955 fans in the sector participated in the chants. The match resumed after an anti-discrimination announcement was made, and no further incidents occurred, partly due to the proactive intervention of Fiorentina’s captain.

In addition to the fine for racist chants, Fiorentina received another €2,000 penalty for their fans throwing a coin onto the pitch in the 48th minute of the second half.

Other clubs also faced disciplinary action:

– Inter Milan was fined €5,000 for their supporters throwing three coins into a sector occupied by opposing fans.
– Genoa received a €4,000 fine for their fans launching firecrackers onto the pitch.
– AC Milan was fined €3,000 for delaying the start of the first half by about three minutes and an additional €3,000 for their fans repeatedly chanting insults at the referee.
– Monza incurred a €3,000 fine for their supporters throwing two lighters onto the pitch.
– Hellas Verona and Lazio were each fined €2,000 for their fans throwing a firecracker and two smoke bombs, respectively, onto the pitch.
– Bologna received a €1,500 fine for a smoke bomb thrown by their supporters.

Player suspensions were also issued:

– Tommaso Pobega (Bologna) received a one-match ban and a €10,000 fine for striking an opponent’s face.
– Pablo Mari Villar (Monza) was suspended for one match due to a double yellow card.
– Manuel Locatelli (Juventus) received a one-match ban and a €1,500 fine for protesting against match officials.
– Edoardo Goldaniga (Como) was suspended for one match due to improper conduct on the field.
