Serie A | Cagliari 1-0 Verona: Match Report

Start

Cagliari secured a crucial 1-0 victory against Hellas Verona on Friday evening, marking their third win of the Serie A season. The decisive goal came from Roberto Piccoli, whose poacher’s strike propelled Cagliari above Roma into 12th place in the league standings.

Prior to kick-off, both teams were closely matched, with only one point separating them. Each had managed just one victory in their last five Serie A matches, intensifying the stakes for this encounter.

Throughout the match, Cagliari dominated possession, holding 65% of the ball and taking 14 shots, three of which were on target. However, it wasn’t until the final 15 minutes that the deadlock was broken.

The goal originated from a throw-in deep in Verona’s half. A well-coordinated play between Antoine Makoumbou and substitute Mattia Felici on the left flank allowed Felici to deliver a low cross from the byline. Piccoli was perfectly positioned to convert the pass with his first touch from just outside the six-yard box.

Cagliari managed to maintain their narrow lead for the remainder of the match, ultimately climbing to 12th place in Serie A, while Roma slipped to 13th. Hellas Verona remains in 16th place with only 12 points from 14 matches and faces the possibility of entering the relegation zone depending on results from Monza and Como over the weekend.
