Serie A | Bologna 2-3 Verona: Match Report

Start

Hellas Verona secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Bologna in Serie A, clinching all three points in a dramatic finish. The match saw Bologna reduced to ten men for most of the second half following Tommaso Pobega’s red card. Goals from Benja Dominguez, Amin Sarr, and Casper Tengstedt, along with an own goal from Santiago Castro, highlighted the evening’s action.

Ahead of the match, both coaches made minimal changes to their starting line-ups. Vincenzo Italiano welcomed back goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski and attacking midfielder Giovanni Fabbian to Bologna’s squad.

The game kicked off with Bologna taking an early lead in the 20th minute when Dominguez showcased impressive footwork to maneuver through a crowded penalty area and find the bottom corner. However, Verona responded swiftly, capitalizing on a defensive error from Bologna. Tengstedt seized the opportunity to assist Sarr, who leveled the score just 15 minutes later.

Verona continued to build momentum, with Sarr again playing a crucial role in their second goal just before halftime. He flicked the ball on to Tengstedt, who finished confidently past Skorupski to give Verona a 2-1 lead going into the break.

The second half began with controversy as Pobega was sent off for an off-the-ball elbow on Ondrej Duda just six minutes in. Despite being down a man, Bologna managed to equalize when Dominguez found the net again after Jens Odgaard’s free-kick hit the post and fell perfectly for him to convert.

As the match approached its final moments, Verona capitalized on their numerical advantage. With just two minutes left in regular time, Duda’s free-kick caused chaos in Bologna’s defense. An attempted clearance by Juan Miranda went awry, resulting in an own goal by Castro that sealed the win for Verona.

This result leaves Bologna in seventh place in the Serie A standings, while Hellas Verona moves four points clear of the relegation zone, now sitting in 16th place.
