Juventus CEO Maurzio Scanavino seemingly confirmed that Max Allegri will remain in charge next season with Giovanni Manna taking on the sporting director role. The Bianconeri have had one of their worst seasons in recent memory, struggling both on and off the pitch. Speaking with Sky Sport Italia, Scanavino explained why Allegri’s future at the club has never been in doubt and talked about the changes to the management team, which will include Manna handling the sporting decisions, including the transfer market:
“Allegri has never been in question. From the point of view of daily meetings or contacts, we have always had them with him. In these months we have gone through this storm together. In some ways our relationship was consolidated very quickly. We had some heated confrontations but always with the will to do the best for the team.”
“Two days after my appointment we found ourselves with the penalty points and Cherubini’s disqualification. In that situation we had created an emergency working group with Calvo and Manna. Giovanni has shown great ability and will take 100% charge of market situations. Giuntoli has a contract with Napoli and it would not be fair to Napoli to comment further.”
“We must not forget the situation we experienced. But all in all we can consider that we operated well. Not only from the point of view of the pitch, where the performance could also have been better but still resulted in a third place on the pitch and two semifinals. The collapse in the final stretch we tie to the psychological situation.”
“Superleague and relations with UEFA? Unrelated aspects. UEFA has an investigation underway that is not yet finished, so we don’t have a judgment to be able to converse.”
“We understand the discontent of the fans who have been in the same boat as us. We come from a period of extraordinary success, but we have to keep our feet on the ground thinking about the future. With the confirmation of Allegri, we managed to put firm points in place even after the closure of justice in Italy. It was not a foregone conclusion to this situation: albeit with a significant penalty, it allows us to plan for the future with less uncertainty. Even when there are still aspects to be resolved that are not trivial to handle. The commitment is total in order to put us in the situation as soon as possible to give our best for the results on the pitch and also aim for an improvement in performance.”
