Scamacca: “There’s the return leg against Liverpool, 0-3 is not enough”

Start

Gianluca Scammacca was happy with his brace against Liverpool but insists that 3-0 is not enough against the Reds. La Dea hold a significant advantage from Thursday evenings first leg at Anfield, but speaking post-match, Scamacca explained why he’s not ready to celebrate just yet:

“Jokes aside, it’s a fantastic night because we believed in ourselves from the beginning, we are very happy, there’s the return leg. Against them, it’s not enough, as you know.”

“We tried to live the win as calmly as possible, entering the field with courage, helping each other. Feats like these are achieved as a team, not as individuals. Today I scored two goals, but if it hadn’t been for my teammates, I wouldn’t have even touched the ball. It’s credit to everyone.”

Is it the best night of your life? Are these goals for the national team?

“These are precious goals for Atalanta, above all, because the main goal is to help the team win games, to progress in this round, which is very important for us. We’re playing against Liverpool, and we hope to progress.”

Could this be a game that leads to a path of growth?

“Yes, it’s a journey that started in August, there have been many difficult moments, but I think that when you strongly believe in something, you are always rewarded. Tonight, we were rewarded as a team, as individuals, we earn everything.”

But you scored two goals at Anfield, are you aware of that?

“There’s the return leg, I don’t want to get carried away by enthusiasm, by the two goals. I need to remain calm for a moment, then we’ll see next week.”

Was there a sense of retaliation after Spalletti’s non-call-up?

“Let’s say it was probably fair, but there’s no kind of retaliation, for me, there’s a journey that started six or seven months ago. We’re reaping the rewards now, I think this is a great starting point for me, for us, to bring satisfaction.”
