Sassuolo, currently leading Serie B, return to San Siro to face the Rossoneri in the Coppa Italia, with Domenico Berardi almost back to full fitness.
While attention is focused on the left-winger, who is often the subject of transfer rumors, there’s also significant interest in the future of Giovanni Carnevali, Sassuolo’s CEO, who has been linked with several top-flight clubs, including Roma.
In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Carnevali addressed the rumors linking him to Roma: “Has Roma approached me? False. I’ve read and heard certain rumors, and naturally, the potential interest is flattering. But I’m not used to reflecting on things that don’t exist. If I were ever to be contacted, I would consider it.”
When asked about his ambition to join a big club, Carnevali responded: “You know, for me, Sassuolo is a big club. And above all, it has great ownership. Anyone would have the ambition to be part of one of the most important clubs. However, for me, it’s not so much about where you work, but how. That is, the way the ownership understands your role and allows you to perform it.”
Regarding the possibility of Sassuolo’s promotion to Serie A allowing him to consider a change more serenely, Carnevali stated: “Let me get Sassuolo to Serie A: that’s my only goal. I’ll think about everything else after that.”
On past offers and the fear of missing opportunities, he said: “It’s true that I’ve been contacted. But if it’s meant to happen, it will. And the train will pass again. The important thing is to make the right choices at the right time.”
Carnevali also commented on Domenico Berardi’s future: “Have we already received calls? False. But they will come soon. The player’s value is top-notch. Berardi is gradually reaching optimal condition. Sometimes I think that Mimmo and I share the same destiny: I could have left Sassuolo, he could have left, and yet here we are together. Deeply connected to each other and to this club.”
Finally, Carnevali shared his thoughts on Fabio Grosso: “He can become a coach for a big club. He has all the characteristics, both as a technician and as a man. He has clear ideas, knowledge, and personality. And he’s the right coach for Sassuolo’s philosophy.”
