Maurizio Sarri dismissed suggestions that he wants to leave Lazio at the end of the season: ‘I want to stay here and fight.’ The Biancocelesti boss was speaking to the press ahead of their Champions League match with Feyenoord, a match he believes they have to approach with ‘humility and confidence’:
“I want to make a clarification. Since there is a rumour going around in Rome that I want to leave at the end of the year. This goes against the statements I have made in this period. I’ve always said that I’m doing well in Rome and I want to end my career here.
“An up and down start to the season doesn’t change my mind. I stay here and fight with my president, my sporting director, my players and my people. This is my idea and anyone who puts any more into circulation…. They are fakes.
“Feyenoord? They won in Rotterdam and took the piss out of us. Tomorrow we have to play with great humility and confidence because we are not superior or inferior to anyone. They play on systematic fouls and are among the most aggressive in Europe.”
“Few chances? Last year at a certain point we also solved this problem with the inclusion of players. When you occupy the area and lose 2-0 then it’s not good, Kamada and Luis Alberto together is difficult even if they played with Vecino low down which gives us intensity but not great verticalization and dribbling”.
“If Luis is well, he plays. I like Kamada but I have difficulty in making him play more for tactical balance. We’ll see today before making a decision on the overall situation. Cataldi? He’s playing less because he plays less in training and also in matches: I’ve told him that. Immobile nervous? I’ve seen people more nervous than him, he’s a great asset for us.
“There are no matches to be won at all costs. We are in the middle of the round, we will try to play our game, which is very important in the economy of the round. In Bologna we did well for 75 minutes but we did not realise the work we had done. The forwards, last year, at this point of the season had 15-16 goals, now they have 5-6 and I don’t know why.
