Santiago Gimenez reveals Milan’s last-minute transfer attempt

Start

Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez has disclosed an intriguing transfer market revelation. In a recent interview with ESPN, Gimenez shared details about AC Milan’s concrete interest in signing him during the last summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old forward explained that Milan made a late attempt to secure his services on the final day of the transfer window. The Italian giants submitted an offer to Feyenoord, but the deal ultimately fell through. Gimenez expressed that joining Milan would have been a dream come true for him, citing his childhood admiration for players like Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, and Kaká.

Despite the failed transfer, Gimenez remains flattered by Milan’s interest, stating that it makes him feel important. He also hinted at the possibility of a future move, saying, “This option is still open.”

Gimenez has proven to be a prolific goalscorer, netting 23 goals in 30 Eredivisie matches during the 2023-24 season. This campaign, he has already scored four times in seven appearances across all competitions. However, he is currently sidelined due to a serious thigh muscle injury sustained in late September, with an expected return in early December.

Milan’s pursuit of Gimenez dates back to May 2023, when they met with his agent at Casa Milan. During the summer, Nottingham Forest also showed serious interest, but Feyenoord’s asking price of €45 million proved too steep.

The striker’s contract with Feyenoord runs until 2027, and according to Mexican media, his former club Cruz Azul retains a percentage of any future transfer fee. This clause could potentially complicate future negotiations for interested clubs.
