Salernitana reaches Verbal Agreement with Giovanni Martusciello

Start

Salernitana has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Giovanni Martusciello to become their new head coach. This development comes after the club’s decision to not proceed with Gaetano Fontana as their managerial choice.

On Tuesday,  Salernitana officials met with Martusciello, and the two parties successfully reached a verbal understanding. The formal signing of the contract is expected to take place on Wednesday.

Sky Sport Italia report how the decision to pursue Martusciello came after careful consideration by club president Danilo Iervolino. The club had initially been in talks with Gaetano Fontana, even meeting with him on the morning of July 2. However, Iervolino ultimately decided against proceeding with Fontana due to concerns related to past incidents.

The incident in question dates back to a derby match between Salernitana and Nocerina in November 2013. The club’s management opted to avoid potential controversies or backlash from supporters that might arise from Fontana’s appointment.

Martusciello, formerly associated with Lazio and Empoli, is now set to take the reins at Salernitana. This opportunity marks a new chapter in his coaching career, following his previous experiences in Serie A.
