Former Milan and Italy coach Arrigo Sacchi believes Inter are ‘cheating’ by wracking up debts to win the title. Speaking with Corriere Adriatico (via CM) during the presentation of his book ‘The Visionary Realist’ last night at Federico II in Jesi, Sacchi voiced his concerns, stating:
“The trend in Italy is becoming one of wanting to achieve goals through cunning means, which is not fair. We need to get out of this situation, or we’ll remain in a perpetual state of crisis. Winning by accumulating debts is cheating. Are Inter cheating? Yes.”
On Simone Inzaghi – “He has evolved, grown immensely. I believe he is on the right path. It’s just regrettable about that game against Atletico Madrid lost in the Champions League. Spanish teams need to be attacked; at one point, he lined up with six defenders, surrendering to the opponent.”
Comparing to Spalletti – “He’s like me; he can do well. I see a lot of myself in him, but he’s not alone. I appreciate Sarri, Gasperini, Italiano, and Pioli. In Italy today, everything revolves around tactics; we just wait for the opponent’s mistake. The founding fathers invented football as an offensive and team sport; in Italy, we’ve turned it into an individual and defensive one. It’s a paradox. A good coach provides a style of play, helps players become better; they are an added conductor. In the 1980s, I could have coached Ancona, but my wife was instrumental in my decision to go to Parma.”
