Roma’s Danso deal collapses, Djalò secured from Juventus

Start

In a dramatic turn of events, Roma’s pursuit of Kevin Danso has come to an abrupt end. The Austrian defender failed to pass his medical examination, with his physical condition deemed unsatisfactory. This development, occurring just hours before the transfer window’s closure, has forced Roma to swiftly alter their defensive reinforcement plans. The club had previously reached an agreement with Lens for a €25 million transfer fee.

Danso Deal Falls Through

Calciomercato report how earlier today, Danso’s absence from team training had raised suspicions, with the transfer already in a precarious state. The evening brought disappointing news for Roma, compelling them to reconsider their defensive strategy.

Roma Secures Djalò

In response to this setback, Roma have  quickly pivoted to secure Tiago Djalò from Juventus. The deal structure involves a €1 million loan fee with a €9 million option to buy. Roma and Juventus had previously discussed this possibility in recent weeks, with Juventus open to a loan arrangement. Following the collapse of the Danso transfer, Roma’s sporting director Florent Ghisolfi acted swiftly to finalize the deal for the Portuguese defender.

Lens’ Official Statement

Lens released an official statement regarding the failed transfer:

“Kevin Danso remains at Lens. The prolonged interpretation of a medical examination was the cause of the interrupted transfer. The club questions the underlying reasons for the failure to validate this move for a player who is closely monitored and who strings together seasons with more than 30 matches on both French and international fields. The club maintains full confidence in its defensive leader, whom it will be pleased to welcome back tomorrow and who will undergo an appropriate protocol before wearing the gold and blood colors again.”
