Roma midfielder Niccolò Pisilli fulfilled a childhood dream by scoring the winning goal in his team’s 2-1 comeback victory against Venezia at the Stadio Olimpico. The young Italian’s late header completed the turnaround for Roma after they had trailed 1-0 at halftime.
In a post-match interview, an elated Pisilli described his emotions after netting his first goal for the club:
“It’s a dream come true. Scoring in this stadium, for this shirt, is everything a Roman and Roma fan dreams of since childhood. So I’m extremely happy,” he said.
Pisilli revealed his instinctive reaction was to celebrate with the entire team: “My first thought was to run towards all my teammates and celebrate with the whole squad, which is why I ran towards the bench.”
When asked about playing alongside experienced midfielder Bryan Cristante, Pisilli expressed his admiration: “It’s an honor. I’m always learning from the more experienced players. For me, picking up small details from all of them in training is fundamental for my growth and improvement.”
The young midfielder dedicated his goal to his family and teammates. He plans to have a quiet celebratory dinner with relatives, noting that training resumes the next day. However, he hinted at future celebrations with his teammates when time allows.
Pisilli’s goal capped off a remarkable turnaround for Roma, who had been booed off the pitch at halftime when trailing 1-0. His late winner not only secured three vital points but also provided a memorable moment for the homegrown talent in front of the passionate Roma supporters.
