Reports from England suggest Chelsea are now preparing to loan Romelu Lukaku to Roma for the 2023-24 season. It’s the latest in a long series of twists in the ongoing transfer saga involving the Belgian international. The 30-year-old had all but agreed a return to Inter after returning to Italy for a loan spell that culminated in the Champions League final.
The Nerazzurri were in talks with Chelsea to secure Lukaku for a prospective lengthy loan deal that would spread the cost of his outright transfer, but news broke that the Belgian was also in talks with Serie A rivals and that Lukaku had stopped taking calls from Nerazzurri management.
Inter pulled out of talks, with newspaper reports suggesting he could make the move to Turin in exchange for Dusan Vlahovic.
The Telegraph now report that Lukaku has decided against moving to Juventus, leaving Chelsea with a difficult decision to make regarding the strikers future. The newspaper claims that he is now likely to join Roma on loan for the season, but the move will not include any obligation to sign him.
