Roma manager Ivan Juric spoke to the press ahead of his team’s Europa League match against Union Saint-Gilloise. The coach reflected on the recent loss to Verona and emphasized the importance of securing a win in the upcoming fixture.
Addressing rumors about his job security, Juric stated, “I feel the trust [of the Friedkin ownership], but we need to get results and we’re focused on that.” He explained that the day off given to players was pre-planned to allow for recovery after a series of matches.
Regarding communication with the club owners, Juric said, “We’ve been in touch with the Friedkins, you don’t need to investigate too much.”
The manager stressed the significance of the upcoming match, saying, “I agree with you. We need to win and play a great game for morale. Only the result matters. I’m sorry to talk about specific incidents, but it wasn’t fair to lose in Verona. We need to win for the standings but also for our morale.”
When asked about the team’s current form, Juric commented, “I think that after Florence we’ve played two good games, sometimes episodes determine the judgment. The game was positive, but results are primary and no one is happy. I think the boys should cling to what they’re doing, trying to win games and they must believe in what they’re doing.”
Addressing tactical questions, Juric explained, “I think this team can do well both in possession and in winning the ball back. In some games we’ve done everything, now we don’t have the results, but this team can do both high pressing and building from the back.”
Reflecting on recent performances, the coach admitted, “In Florence, it was a disaster, the team wasn’t focused. In Verona, I don’t remember a save from Svilar or many chances conceded. Against Torino, Roma conceded 4 shots in general. In the last two, we haven’t conceded counterattacks except for the last one in Verona.”
Juric concluded by emphasizing the team’s focus on the upcoming match: “Tomorrow we need to win and we’re focused, we need to win for morale. In Verona, the players were convinced they would win it by going strong. It didn’t happen and the boys need a victory and we’ll do everything to get it, then we’ll think about Sunday.”
