After bolstering their attack, Roma is now focusing on strengthening their defence, namely the full-back positions. Coach Daniele De Rossi is in need of a right-back, with Celik being the only option following the departure of Kristensen to Eintracht and Karsdorp remaining out of the squad. Although Sangaré has joined from the market, the 2007-born player will be part of the Primavera team. One of the top targets remains Raoul Bellanova. The Italian full-back is highly favored by De Rossi, but Torino’s asking price of €25 million is considered too steep by Roma.
Despite initial contacts before the European Championship and recent discussions, Roma is unwilling to meet Torino’s high valuation, putting the deal on hold. Bellanova, who enjoyed a successful season at Torino, is keen on a move to the capital.
Rejected Swap Proposals
Calciomercato confirm that Roma are determined to secure Bellanova despite Torino’s high demands. Ghisolfi, who traveled with the team to England, has proposed including players in the deal to lower the transfer fee. However, Torino has rejected the inclusion of Zalewski, whose contract expires in 2025 and who is not in De Rossi’s plans following a lackluster season. Torino had previously shown interest in Kumbulla, but with Juric’s departure, a move for the Albanian defender is unlikely, with Parma now interested in him.
Alternative Options
Roma is not solely focused on Bellanova. The club’s sporting director is also tracking other potential signings. De Rossi’s preferred choice is Pubill, a physically strong player who fits the coach’s requirements. Pubill is valued at around €18 million, and Roma’s good relationship with Almeria’s president, Turki Al-Sheikh, who is also involved with Roma’s main sponsor Riyadh Season, could facilitate the deal. Other options include Calabria and Assignon, with the latter also attracting interest from Aston Villa. There is also a tentative interest in Sergi Roberto, the former Barcelona player who is currently a free agent.
