Roma consider coaching change: Ranieri and De Rossi duo emerge as potential solution

Start

Ivan Juric’s position as Roma’s head coach is in serious jeopardy following the team’s defeat against Fiorentina. The squad returned to the capital with their morale shattered, and a delegation of about 50 fans from the Curva Sud awaited them at Termini station. An overnight discussion took place between the supporters and captain Lorenzo Pellegrini, joined by teammates Mancini, Paredes, Dybala, and Cristante.

Calciomercato report that as the club contemplates Juric’s potential dismissal, attention has turned to possible replacements. Among the candidates are former Roma player Daniele De Rossi and the experienced Claudio Ranieri, with an intriguing possibility of the two working in tandem.

De Rossi and Ranieri share a relationship of mutual respect. While De Rossi is still under contract with Roma, he is currently in New York with his family, scheduled to return on November 4. Coincidentally, club owner Dan Friedkin is also in New York, though no meetings between the two have been arranged yet.

The prospect of Ranieri’s third stint at Roma is gaining traction. He could return for a third time after his previous tenures in 2009/2010 and 2018/2019. However, a new scenario is emerging: De Rossi as head coach with Ranieri serving as technical director.

Other available coaches include Roberto Mancini, Massimiliano Allegri, Maurizio Sarri, and Edin Terzic. However, these high-profile managers are unlikely to accept a caretaker role. Moreover, the Friedkin Group would face the financial burden of paying three substantial salaries, in addition to those of De Rossi (€3.3 million) and Juric (€2.2 million).

This financial consideration makes Ranieri an attractive option. His appointment alone would allow Roma to complete the season with him at the helm before pursuing other coaching options in the future. Allegri’s name is particularly intriguing to the club, while Mancini is eager for redemption after his disappointing experience in Saudi Arabia.
