Reports from Canada suggest that Roma’s new sporting director Florent Ghisolfi has immediately entered the race to sign Jonathan David. The Lille striker, who has flourished in the last two seasons with Lille under former Roma coach Paulo Fonseca, but looks set to leave France this summer.
The Canadian international has scored 43 goals in Ligue 1, but with his contract set to end next month, he is reportedly eyeing a change of scenery this summer.
Corriere dello Sport report that Roma are in the running to try and sign the 24-year-old, but will have to compete with a number of other European clubs who may be able to offer a higher salary to the young striker.
The newspaper report that it remains to be seen how Lille’s owner, Alessandro Barnaba, who is Roman and a Roma fan, will act; two years ago, he sold Zeki Celik to Tiago Pinto. David could potentially become the subject of an international auction after the Copa America, where he will represent Canada. The forward is also attracting interest from Milan.
