Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi didn’t mince words when expressing his disappointment with his team’s recent performances. After suffering a 0-3 defeat against Fulham, De Zerbi addressed his team’s current situation as they gear up to face Roma in the Europa League Round of 16:
“We are well aware of the difficulties of the moment; we are going through a very tough period,” De Zerbi stated in an interview with Sky Sport. “We have many injuries, and there are many matches ahead of us. But we were already aware of this before the season started.”
Maintaining competitiveness at the top level requires relentless effort day in and day out, according to De Zerbi. “To stay at these levels, you have to push hard every day, game after game. We had three competitions: the FA Cup, from which we were eliminated on Wednesday, today’s Premier League match against Fulham, and Thursday’s Europa League clash with Roma.”
“For us, it’s a challenge, and in these circumstances, we have to show whether we are capable of competing at this level or if we need to revert to playing only once a week during the league season.”
