Pepe Reina, the new goalkeeper for Como, gave an extensive interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport, discussing his decision to return to Italy and his upcoming objectives.
Reina began the interview by addressing how crucial his dialogue with Fabregas was in his decision to join Como: “I almost had to convince him. Jokes aside, he told me about the project. When he talks about this project, he often refers to it as a family. It’s an ambitious club that wants to grow. Over the years, it will surely become a model team in Europe. Those of us with a lot of experience are available to lend a big hand. With Cesc, I have a special relationship. We’ve been together for 14 years in the national team and we know each other perfectly. Between us, there’s confidence, trust, transparency, many things that make everything easier.”
The former Napoli, Milan, and Lazio player also focused on the role he will have within the team: “I’m coming to help in any way I can. If I’m not the starter, whoever is will have to play at a very high level. I won’t complain, but I’ll work harder to have my space.”
Reina concluded by identifying who he believes is the strongest goalkeeper in Serie A: “Di Gregorio had a fantastic season. Sommer, even if in a team that defends well and concedes little, has always been consistent. Maignan is also of a very high level.”
