Real Madrid’s Ancelotti reflects on 3-1 loss to AC Milan: “There was no reaction, we should be worried”

Carlo Ancelotti admits that a lack of reaction from his Real Madrid side following their 3-1 loss to AC Milan is worrying. The Rossoneri delivered a second consecutive blow at the Bernabeu, with Vinicius’ equalizer proving insufficient as Milan scored three goals in Carlo Ancelotti’s fortress, securing a Champions League victory.

“We should be worried because the team has a lot of potential but isn’t showing it,” Ancelotti stated in his post-match interview with Sky Sport.

It’s a challenging period for Real Madrid’s dressing room. Two consecutive defeats following El Clasico, with seven goals conceded at home between La Liga and Champions League. Ancelotti had anticipated a reaction from his players in the fourth round against Milan. However, the Italian side claimed a victory at the Bernabeu, their first since 2009.

“There was no reaction. We were not solid at the back, just like in El Clasico. We’re often caught off balance. We need to try to recover the ball more and not be so fragile. We should be worried because the team has a lot of potential but isn’t demonstrating it,” Ancelotti explained.

The Italian coach continued, addressing Real Madrid’s defensive frailty: “When you’re not solid during the defensive phase, matches can become complicated at any moment. Sometimes you recover, other times you don’t.”

Ancelotti concluded the interview by discussing AC Milan: “I expected this quality from Milan, which became even more evident due to our fragility. Defending well is the foundation of football, we need to do it better. We will change something.”
