Former Manchester United and Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Como 1907, just weeks after announcing his retirement from professional football. The Italian club made the official announcement on Saturday via their official website.
Varane’s new role will focus on youth development and educational projects, working closely with Como’s Head of Development, Osian Roberts, and educational program manager, Juliette Martin. The French World Cup winner aims to help young athletes grow both on and off the pitch by integrating academic training, leadership development, and professional growth into youth programs.
In addition to his work with young players, Varane will provide consultation on Como’s product development strategy, combining technology and innovation. His responsibilities will include improving digital solutions, enhancing data analysis platforms, and upgrading ticketing systems to drive the club’s operational evolution and improve fan engagement.
Como’s president, Mirwan Suwarso, expressed enthusiasm about Varane’s appointment, stating that his achievements and interest in youth and education align with the club’s future goals.
