Ranieri: “There’s a Roma with Dybala and a Roma without….”

Roma manager Claudio Ranieri spoke to DAZN following his team’s impressive 5-0 victory over Parma. The veteran coach shared his thoughts on the performance and key players.

Reflecting on whether this was Roma’s best performance, Ranieri said, “I don’t know, but we need to improve. We had to erase the second half against Como, and the boys did that. Now we focus on the next away game; we need to wake up and perform well there too.”

Interestingly, Ranieri made no substitutions during the match. He explained, “Is this my definitive Roma? Not necessarily. I didn’t make changes because I saw they were interpreting the game well. I just wanted those who started the match to continue.”

The coach emphasized the importance of Paulo Dybala to the team: “For me, when Paulo is fit, he plays. Then if I see the game needs something else, I take him off. There’s a difference between a Roma with Dybala and a Roma without.”

Ranieri also praised experienced players Mats Hummels and Leandro Paredes: “There’s little to say about Hummels: when he tells me he’s fit, he plays, and the same goes for Paredes. These are the players I like: they have experience and know how to control the rhythm of the game.”

Looking ahead to upcoming matches against Milan and Lazio, Ranieri cautioned, “We must play game by game and pull ourselves out of the quicksand. I’m happy with these boys; we’ll wait for the test at San Siro to understand what we can do when we grow up.”

The coach also expressed satisfaction with striker Artem Dovbyk’s performance: “I’m pleased with how he moved and how he dialogued with his teammates. He needs to shoot first-time too; he shouldn’t be afraid of making mistakes.”
