Claudio Ranieri, the experienced manager and former coach of Roma, Inter, Juventus, and Napoli, as well as the architect of Leicester City’s historic Premier League title, recently shared his thoughts on Roma’s crisis during an interview with Radio Anch’io Sport on Rai Radio 1.
The Italian tactician expressed concern over Roma’s current state, stating, “Roma seems like a cold soul, without personality. I don’t understand how they’ve handled De Rossi: if you confirm him and give him a three-year contract, you’re telling the whole world that we’re building a new team. At that point, you give your young coach time to do his job.”
Ranieri criticized the club’s decision-making, adding, “You can’t send him away after four matches. For what? That means you made a mistake in planning beforehand. Roma lacks a reference figure. You can’t blame the Friedkins entirely because they’ve invested a lot of money. But they’re showing that money alone is not enough.”
The experienced coach emphasized the importance of strong leadership within the club, saying, “Something is still missing in a club where a point of reference is very important. Rome is a very particular place: the fans need to be pampered, helped, encouraged. Instead, it seems there’s coldness.”
Ranieri also highlighted the unique nature of managing in Rome, explaining, “Rome is a very particular place: the fans need to be pampered, helped, encouraged. Instead, it seems there’s coldness.”
When asked about his potential return to coaching, Ranieri remained coy but hinted at his enthusiasm, saying, “I don’t know, I don’t know… the desire is strong. We’ll see, we’re waiting and watching.”
