An emotional Claudio Ranieri couldn’t hold back his joy after guiding Cagliari to promotion: ‘Cagliari means everything to me’. The Sardinian’s beat Bari 1-0 in the second-leg of the Serie B promotion playoffs, thanks to a late Leonardo Pavoletti goal making it 2-1 on aggregate. Ranieri was in tears following the match and spoke to DAZN about what it means to take Gli Isolani back to the top, 33 years after first coaching them:
“Cagliari means everything to me, 33 years ago I became a coach here and this club allowed me to travel around Europe, I will always be grateful to this area and its people. I was afraid to come back, to tarnish the beautiful memories I had here.”
“I will always be grateful to those who brought me back to Sardinia, and I want to think about our fans … all those who have supported us until the end in recent weeks. Having given joy to such a passionate group of supporters makes me so proud.”
