A new report from La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Rafael Leao is ever more unlikely to renew his Milan contract. The Portuguese forward has a contract with the Rossoneri until 2024 and has been in talks with the club management to extend the deal, but the suggestion is that negotiations have faltered.
La Gazzetta claim that both parties are no longer speaking and the ‘break’ between Leao and Milan ‘appears eveident’. The Milan offer to extend his contract until 2027 has fallen by the wayside, the decisive reasoning being Leao’s attitude on the release clause in his contract, which he has asked to have reduced from €150m to €70-80m.
According to Gazzetta, the Rossoneri are more resigned to selling the player in the summer to avoid losing him for free in 2024, with Chelsea still expressing an interest in signing him.
The report suggests that Milan have grown tired at the lack of progress during the talks and club director Paolo Maldini had tried to speak with Leao to understand his future intentions, but the discussions ended with both parties frustrated.
