Rabiot: ‘I deserved to be in the Ballon d’Or list, considering who is on there’

Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot says he ‘wasn’t indifferent’ to being left off the list for the Ballon d’Or: ‘It wasn’t logical’. The Frenchman enjoyed his best career season to date, scoring 11 goals in 48 games for the Bianoneri across all competitions. Speaking with L’Equipe, Rabiot discussed his time in Turin, beginning with his decision to renew his contract with Juventus this summer, despite having offers from other European sides:

“I also stayed (at Juventus) to prepare myself better for the European Championship. This was an important part of my decision, it is complicated to adapt in a new club. With Juve we won’t have the Cups but I take it as an opportunity to work harder, which you can’t do when you play every three days.”

“Allegri? He insists a lot on this point and he’s right. My numbers could be higher even though I scored eleven goals last season. All the coaches have told me this, even Blanc at PSG. I have margins of progress and one is scoring more.”

“The Ballon d’Or? I wasn’t indifferent, because I tell myself that I still had a very important season on an individual level and because seeing certain players appear there, I thought it wasn’t logical. Those who decide all this may not have a player’s entire season in mind. Sometimes one or two good Champions League games can be enough.”
