Ligue 1 champions PSG are keen to sign Khvicha Kvaratskhelia but Napoli want to renew his contract.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that in the midst of what seems like a tumultuous period for Napoli, the future of the Georgian has emerged as a central topic of discussion. After the initial discussions for a contract renewal and with the second meeting scheduled for the end of the season, various scenarios are now in play. The newspaper writes:
‘Faced with an irresistible offer – reportedly at least €120-130 million, matching Victor Osimhen’s release clause – even Aurelio De Laurentiis’ resistance might waver. The disappointing year for Napoli leaves room for uncertainty, as while De Laurentiis aims to secure the Georgian with a top player contract, Kvaratskhelia may have aspirations to continue his growth path in the coveted Champions League.
‘The situation is delicate, but one certainty remains: De Laurentiis holds a contract signed until 2027, placing him in a position of strength against any potential dissatisfaction from Kvaratskhelia. However, the events of last summer taught that keeping discontented players leads nowhere; it risks infecting the locker room and ultimately losing the main reference point: Napoli’s well-being.
‘In the initial meeting between the parties a couple of weeks ago, agent Mamuka Jugeli brought to De Laurentiis’ attention Barcelona’s pursuit of his client, as well as PSG’s concrete interest. PSG, engaged for months in the quest for Mbappé’s replacements, has maintained excellent relations with Napoli.
‘PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi is also in pole position to secure Victor Osimhen, for whom paying the release clause of approximately €130 million suffices. While this amount may seem substantial for an ordinary club, it’s insignificant for PSG, which can reinvest all the money saved from no longer having to pay Mbappé. It’s a significant saving that PSG might consider channelling into an all-in move for Napoli’s golden duo.
Kvaratskhelia, on the other hand, would be willing to continue with Napoli under a clear and winning project, alongside a significant contractual adjustment. Jugeli has proposed a new agreement of €5 million net per year plus bonuses to De Laurentiis for contract renewal, while the Napoli owner is willing to offer €4 million and include a release clause. There’s a gap but no closure. However, PSG aims to enter the conversation, possibly by offering €80 million plus the loan of Kolo Muani – with wages covered – to Napoli to secure Kvaratskhelia. He would be a perfect fit in Luis Enrique’s 4-3-3 system and the cornerstone around which De Laurentiis aims to rebuild the project.
