Paris Saint-Germain have reignited their interest in Napoli’s star winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, potentially setting the stage for a major January transfer. This renewed pursuit comes after PSG’s unsuccessful attempt to acquire both Kvaratskhelia and Victor Osimhen last summer.
Calciomercato report on recent developments which suggest that Christian Zaccardo, the intermediary who facilitated Kvaratskhelia’s move to Italy, has left Dubai to meet with the player’s agent, Jugela, and Napoli’s sporting director, Manna. Napoli’s asking price for the Georgian sensation is reported to be between €80-90 million, mirroring the release clause De Laurentiis intended to include in Kvaratskhelia’s new contract.
The ongoing stalemate in contract renewal negotiations with Kvaratskhelia has prompted Napoli to consider their options. With his current contract running until June 2027, the club is wary of repeating the Osimhen scenario, where a renewal was followed by a failed transfer.
Napoli’s recent performances without Kvaratskhelia, who is currently sidelined with muscle fatigue, have been impressive. The team has scored 9 goals in 4 matches, securing victories against Udinese, Genoa, Venezia, and Fiorentina. This success, coupled with the emergence of summer signing Neres under Antonio Conte’s guidance, has made the prospect of selling Kvaratskhelia more palatable.
Conte, initially resistant to January transfers, appears to have softened his stance, reportedly giving his approval for the deal on the condition that a suitable replacement is secured and the funds are reinvested. Federico Chiesa, currently at Liverpool, have emerged as the primary target to fill Kvaratskhelia’s shoes. Other potential replacements include Zhegrova and Rashford.
The potential windfall from Kvaratskhelia’s sale could also allow Napoli to strengthen other areas of the squad. Rumors suggest that Conte might push for midfield reinforcements, with Frattesi being a name of interest, though such a move remains challenging.
