Juventus Football Club has officially announced the termination of Paul Pogba’s contract. In a statement, the club said: “Juventus Football Club and Paul Pogba communicate that they have mutually agreed to terminate the sports performance contract, effective from November 30, 2024. The club wishes Paul the best for his future professional career.”
This marks the end of Pogba’s second stint with Juventus, a period marred by injuries, off-field issues, and a recent doping scandal. The decision comes after difficult years for the French midfielder, whose return to Turin in 2022 was met with high expectations that were ultimately unfulfilled.
Pogba’s Response
Shortly after the official announcement, Pogba shared his thoughts: “There are moments when things don’t go as we would like, but one thing is certain: the bond I have with you, dear fans, will be unforgettable. You gave me so much, more than I can express in words, and I will always carry with me all the affection you have given me. You will forever be in my heart. Good luck.”
In an official statement, Pogba bid farewell to the Juventus world: “My time at Juventus has come to an end. It was a privilege to wear the Bianconeri shirt and share so many special moments together. I keep the memories, those remain. Even in the toughest moments of the last year, your support was crucial, and I want to thank Juve fans around the world for their empathy. It was a pleasure, over the years, to have experienced so many beautiful moments with my teammates, and I wish them all the best of luck. I look forward to the next chapter of my career and can’t wait to take the field with my next club.”
A Challenging Period
When Pogba returned to Turin in the summer of 2022, expectations were sky-high. After leaving Juventus in 2016 for Manchester United in a record transfer, his return on a free transfer seemed the ideal move to relaunch his career and inject new life into the Bianconeri midfield. However, the Frenchman never managed to return to the levels of his first experience in Turin, when he was one of the most complete and influential midfielders in the world. Injuries severely limited his contribution: in the 2022/2023 season, Pogba made just 10 appearances in total, none of which lasted the full 90 minutes.
The Farewell
Juventus has decided to turn the page, closing a chapter that did not bring the hoped-for results. The agreement for the consensual termination of the contract allows the club to save approximately 10 million euros gross annually in wages, a significant amount that can be reinvested to strengthen the team. After the news of the reduction of his ban to 18 months – Paul will be able to play again from March 2025 – Juventus never considered reintegrating the Frenchman, and negotiations to define his departure began immediately. These negotiations have now concluded, and Pogba is free to choose his next destination.
