Milan coach Stefano Pioli was full of praise for Rafael Leao’s performance in their 2-1 win over Salernitana today, calling it one of his best. The Rossoneri started the game in dominant fashion, going 2-0 up in the first first half thanks to great displays from Leao and Tonali. Speaking to Sky Sport Italia after the game, Pioli highlighted the things he’d like to improve on but was pleased with the result:
“We’ll face weeks where we’ll be playing for so long, from the Scudetto to the Champions League. Against Salernitana we played a good game, but there are many situations that we can develop better. We started it well but we didn’t have the ability to close it out early. It was important to win though. We knew we had worked well despite some friendlies that didn’t go well. But it is a small step towards more important goals.
Leao? I spoke to him and told him that his path of growth with us is not yet finished. In him I see happiness and conviction to stay. Today he showed that he can be a champion. He worked with continuity and with the right attitude. It was one of his best Milan games.
Negative experiences make you understand what doesn’t work. The friendly against PSV didn’t satisfy us, we had to recover immediately. I have no doubts about the quality of my players and the fact that we can face every match with great conviction.”
