Pietro Pellegri, the Empoli striker and former AC Milan player, is gearing up for a significant match against his old club this Saturday at San Siro. In an interview with Il Tirreno, Pellegri reflected on his journey and the challenges he has faced, particularly regarding injuries.
“I have never scored three goals in three consecutive matches before,” Pellegri stated. “This is simply because I have never played with such continuity. If a striker plays in Serie A, he knows how to do his job, and if he plays regularly, he will score.” After netting a goal against Udinese, Pellegri expressed his gratitude towards coach D’Aversa for the trust and opportunities he has been given. “I ran to hug D’Aversa because he is giving me confidence and space. I also showed the shirt of Haas because this goal is dedicated to him after his serious injury.”
Addressing the topic of injuries, Pellegri voiced his frustration at being labeled as injury-prone. “I am tired of being tagged as someone who always gets hurt. That is not the case. I have never had particularly serious injuries, just muscle strains. All of us players work hard and stress our bodies every day, and injuries can happen to anyone. However, I know my body better now and can manage myself more effectively.”
Reflecting on his time at AC Milan, Pellegri described it as a formative experience. “I learned a lot by seeing how certain champions work every day. The Rossoneri club operates at the highest level in every aspect.” He added with determination, “On Saturday, I will obviously try to score again and punish them.”
Pellegri also expressed gratitude towards Empoli’s sporting director Gemmi for instilling confidence in him from the start. “The entire environment makes an effort to put you in the best conditions,” he said. “I have never found a locker room as united as ours today. You wake up in the morning eager to get to training.” He concluded by emphasizing the team’s commitment to their goal of survival in Serie A: “We will continue to fight for our objective: staying up.”
