Maximo Perrone, the young Argentine midfielder at the heart of Cesc Fabregas’ Como, has shared his insights on the team’s progress and his experience in Serie A. The 20-year-old, known for his quick and aggressive style, believes he’s more than just a tenacious player, as he explained to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I see myself as someone who plays with the ball a lot and sets up the action,” Perrone explained. “I like quality midfielders who organize the game, and I think that’s the style I identify with most. A role model today? Rodri.”
Como’s recent form has been impressive, with two consecutive victories yielding six points in a week. Perrone attributes this success to the team’s growing understanding of Fabregas’ philosophy. “We’re improving match by match, interpreting Fabregas’ ideas better each time,” he said.
Looking ahead to their match against Napoli, Perrone emphasized the team’s commitment to their playing style. “We want to impose our game. We know Napoli is strong, but we want to maintain our identity, which leads us to always try to win matches.”
Reflecting on his brief stint at Manchester City, Perrone described it as a challenging but formative experience. Now in Serie A, he’s relishing the opportunity to prove himself.
Perrone echoed teammate Belotti’s sentiments about Fabregas being an innovator. “I think so too. In Italian football, it’s rare to find the style of play we’re proposing. Fabregas has the same DNA as Guardiola: he wants to play the ball, press high, and bring many players into the center of the field. I think these are our strengths.”
While yet to score in Europe, Perrone’s potential is evident from his performances for Argentina’s U20 team. He acknowledges scoring as an area for improvement: “Obviously, everyone wants to score goals. It’s an aspect I’m working on, and I know I need to keep improving. I hope the first one with this shirt comes soon.”
Perrone expressed his enthusiasm for Serie A, describing it as very aggressive defensively. When asked about the strongest player he’s seen in Italy so far, he playfully responded, “Nico Paz. That counts as an answer, right?!”
