Former Spanish international Pedro Rodriguez is proving to be the ace up Lazio’s sleeve under Marco Baroni’s management. The Spanish champion has been leading his teammates with a flurry of goals and assists, demonstrating that age is just a number when it comes to his performances on the pitch.
In a recent interview with Il Messaggero, Pedro reflected on his controversial move from Roma to Lazio in the summer of 2021. While he made it clear that he doesn’t wish to dwell on his time at Roma or his relationship with Mourinho, he didn’t hold back in expressing his gratitude for the transfer:
Reflecting on that pivotal moment, Pedro stated, “I am the past. In fact, they made the best decision at the time, and I thank them for transferring me to the first team of the capital, which is Lazio.” He expressed his desire to continue playing in Serie A, describing it as a highly competitive and fascinating league.
Pedro’s move to Lazio has been celebrated by fans, who appreciate his contributions on the pitch. He noted, “I feel privileged and cannot complain. I never imagined winning 25 titles in my career, including the Champions League and the World Cup.” He added that while he might not receive as much media recognition as he deserves, he values the affection he receives from teammates and fans alike.
When discussing his aspirations with Lazio, Pedro said, “Of course I would like to win something with Lazio because I’ve had the chance to win a title in all my seasons except in Italy. Lazio is a historic club with a legacy similar to Chelsea or Barcelona.” He emphasized that while winning is important, he is focused on enjoying the season: “I want to stay here until the end of the season, and then we will see.”
Pedro also shared insights into his current role within the team: “I have a more important role compared to last year. I’m the oldest in the team, but I still try to help like the others. I feel comfortable and close to the young players; this is my role.” He expressed pride in mentoring younger teammates while remaining an integral part of the squad.
In addition to his personal goals, Pedro highlighted Lazio’s ambitions for European football: “European football must always be a goal for Lazio. We want to reach the Champions League and have the ability to do so.” His confidence reflects a strong belief in both his abilities and those of his teammates.
Looking ahead, Pedro mentioned plans for a future museum showcasing his career achievements: “It’s a project we’re already working on that will happen once I’ve retired. The idea is to collect all the things I’ve kept: trophies, awards, shirts… and give them to people so they can see them up close.”
