AC Milan concluded their final pre-season match by winning the second edition of the Trofeo Silvio Berlusconi, defeating Monza 3-1. The team delivered a solid performance and is now gearing up to face Torino in their Serie A opener on Saturday, August 17. Following the friendly match, Milan’s manager, Paulo Fonseca, shared his thoughts on the team’s performance and the ongoing transfer market.
Fonseca focused his comments on the midfield situation, particularly addressing the need for a defensive midfielder. When asked about this, Fonseca surprised many by revealing a transfer update: “The midfielder we want? It’s Fofana, everybody knows that.” Youssouf Fofana has long been a target for Milan.
Fonseca also discussed the team’s strategy at San Siro, stating, “Milan wants to dominate, wants to recover the ball higher up the pitch. I didn’t expect everything to be perfect now, but we can already see some progress.” He praised Alexis Saelemaekers, who played a key role against Monza: “I like him a lot, every coach would. I want him to stay with us.”
Regarding Luka Jovic, Fonseca admitted, “I didn’t know him, and he surprised me in these weeks. He will be important.”
