Roma forward Paulo Dybala is reportedly close to extending his contract with the club, eliminating his release clause in the process. La Joya joined the Giallorossi last summer on a free transfer after failing to reach an agreement with former club Juventus on a new deal. His contract with Roma included a release clause that comes into effect this summer, allowing him to leave the capital for just €12m if a non Italian side were willing to pay, and €20m for other Italian sides.
La Joya recently commented on the release clause, saying:
“It is a matter between my agents and the club. At the end of the year I don’t know what will happen. I would like to continue to be coached by Mourinho, he is one of the best and I want to win with him. I only think about tomorrow’s game and doing well. The year is long and I want to win with Roma and make it to the Champions League.”
La Gazzetta dello Sport now report that Dybala is close to extending his contract with Roma until 2025. The new deal will improve his salary from €4.5m to €6m, and in doing so, the Giallorossi will eliminate the release clause from the Argentine’s contract.
The move will also give the club greater power in any potential negotiations for the player, should any other sides show interest in the former Juve man. The extension will secure Dybala’s immediate future in Rome, regardless of whether or not Roma qualify for the Champions League next season or if coach Jose Mourinho is at the club.
