Torino assistant coach Matteo Paro spoke with the press following their 2-1 win over Sassuolo, praising the players for the level of their performance. The Granata have struggled of late, but turned in one of their best recent performances to beat Sassuolo relatively comfortably at the Stadio Olimpico Torino.
Speaking in the post-match, Paro stood in for head coach Ivan Juric, who was seen giving two fingers to the Torino Curva Maratona following their victory:
“I think the boys played a very high level game. Maybe we were not the best Torino but we created a lot, shot a lot and contained Sassuolo well. We need to improve in the game but I think the win is deserved. Now we must not stop, but continue to work and think about the next one.”
“We can always do better, am the team from the start found the right spaces. Even in the Cup we created a lot of chances but were unable to exploit them. Zapata was a bit unlucky today, and the pitch did not help him. But the boy came to us with an incredible mentality, an exemplary prefessional. He worked hard today and held up the ball. We’re sorry he didn’t score tonight, but the goal will come.”
“The team was prepared by the coach, I went to the bench to guide them. The boys deserve the applause, not me. This match gave us very good signs, this is the road we have to keep working on. Injuries? We will now have to evaluate Ricci and Rodriguez. It looks like two muscle problems. We’re sorry because we also had a difficult management of the changes. We hope it is nothing serious.
“The reaction from the coach? Juric is very emotional, he wanted to celebrate. His gesture was just an emotional reaction, he cared so much about this game. He is someone who always vents a lot on the field, being in a box behind glass is not for him.”
