Roma have completed their first signing of the January transfer window, securing the services of Dutch defender Devyne Rensch from Ajax on a permanent deal. The 22-year-old right-back arrives in the Italian capital after a successful stint with the Eredivisie giants.
Roma released an official statement welcoming their new acquisition: “AS Roma is pleased to announce the permanent signing of Devyne Rensch from Ajax. Born in 2003, Rensch is a right-sided player who developed through Ajax’s youth academy before becoming a first-team regular, amassing over 100 official appearances across all competitions.”
The club added, “Rensch has also made his debut for the Netherlands national team, earning his first cap on September 7, 2021, in a match against Turkey. He will wear the number 2 shirt for Roma and becomes the eighth Dutch player in the club’s history to don the Giallorossi colors. Welcome to Roma, Devyne!”
Rensch is known for his versatility and speed, capable of playing in various positions across the backline. The young Dutchman is comfortable using both feet, which adds to his adaptability on the pitch. While he prefers to contribute to attacking play, Rensch has also improved his defensive skills in recent years.
Throughout his time at Ajax, where he progressed through the youth ranks, Rensch accumulated over 150 appearances in the Eredivisie and gained valuable experience in European competitions. His arrival provides Claudio Ranieri’s Roma side with additional options and depth in defense as they aim to climb the Serie A table and compete for European qualification.
