Milan have officially confirmed that Portuguese winger Rafael Leao has extended his contract with the club until 2028. The announcement has been due for a little while and confirmation came earlier that today would be D-day when Leao was pictured arriving at the club HQ, shortly after directors Ricky Masara and Paolo Maldini. The club have now confirmed the news via a statement on their official website:
AC Milan is pleased to announce that Rafael Alexandre da Conceição Leão has renewed his contract with the Club until 30 June 2028.
Since joining in the summer of 2019, Rafa boasts 162 appearances, 41 goals and 29 assists for the Rossoneri, and was named “Best Player in Serie A” last season.
AC Milan and Rafael continue their journey together.
Reports in the Italian media suggest that Leao will earn close to €5.1 million per season, with a signing-on bonus of €1.5 million. The 23-year-old will also net €250,000 if Milan win the Champions League, along with various performance related add-ons and bonuses for Serie A wins and domestic Cups, with personal bonuses for reaching 15-23-30 thresholds (goals + assists).
The contract is also expected to include a €175 million release clause that will only be exercisable in the first weeks of July.
