Juventus has officially confirmed the transfer of Tiago Djalo to Porto. The central defender will join the Portuguese club on a loan deal without an option for a future purchase. This move comes less than eight months after Djalo’s arrival at Juventus, temporarily ending his stint with the Italian giants.
During his time with the Old Lady, Djalo struggled to make an impact. Former manager Massimiliano Allegri rarely considered him for selection. After Allegri’s dismissal, Paolo Montero gave Djalo a brief opportunity, granting him just 16 minutes of playing time in the final match of the previous season against Monza. Current coach Thiago Motta, despite having Djalo available throughout the pre-season, opted to rely on the central defensive pairing of Gatti and Bremer, with Cabal as the primary backup.
Five years after leaving Portugal and bidding farewell to Sporting Lisbon, where he developed as a youth player, Djalo is set to once again feature in the Portuguese league. At Porto, he is expected to fill the void left by Pepe, who retired this past summer.
Porto released an official statement welcoming Djalo as their sixth reinforcement for the 2024/25 season. The 24-year-old center-back, standing at 1.90 meters tall, joins on a loan deal from Juventus. The agreement, which comes at no additional cost to the Portuguese club, is valid until the end of the season and includes participation in the Club World Cup. Djalo will wear the number 3 shirt for Porto.
