Real Betis has officially secured the services of Brazilian defender Natan from Napoli, marking an important addition to their squad as they prepare for the upcoming La Liga season. The deal, finalized on today, involves a one-season loan with an option to buy at the end of the term for a total of €9 million.
Natan arrived in Seville to undergo medical examinations before the transfer was confirmed. The financial details of the agreement indicate that Betis will pay under €1 million for the loan, with the option to make the move permanent for an additional €7-8 million. Importantly, this option does not carry an obligation to buy, allowing Betis flexibility in their future decisions regarding the player.
The 23-year-old defender was previously considered a gamble by Napoli after they sold their star player, Kim Min-jae, to Bayern Munich last summer. Natan, who was signed from RB Bragantino for €10 million, struggled to make a significant impact at Napoli, managing only 21 competitive appearances and contributing one assist. His progress was further hindered by a serious shoulder injury, which limited his playing time.
Despite interest from several Serie A clubs, including Verona, Parma, and Empoli, Natan chose to join Real Betis, a decision that reflects his desire for a fresh start and more playing opportunities.
The signing of Natan is particularly crucial for Betis as they seek to bolster their defensive options following the return of German Pezzella to Argentina. With the La Liga season fast approaching, Natan’s arrival adds depth to the squad, and the club is also looking to secure an attacker after the departure of Ayoze Perez to Villarreal.
