OFFICIAL: Monza sack Alessandro Nesta

Start

Monza have officially announced the dismissal of head coach Alessandro Nesta following a string of poor results that have left the club at the bottom of the Serie A table. The decision comes after Sunday’s home defeat to Juventus, which marked Monza’s ninth loss of the season and third consecutive defeat.

With only 10 points from 17 matches and their sole victory dating back to October 21st against Hellas Verona, the club’s management, led by Adriano Galliani, has decided to make a change ahead of Saturday’s away match against Parma.

Salvatore Bocchetti is set to take over as the new head coach. Currently under contract with Hellas Verona, Bocchetti is in the process of terminating his agreement with the Gialloblu. Monza is preparing to offer him a contract until June 2025, with an option for an additional season if the team avoids relegation.

In their official statement, AC Monza expressed gratitude to Nesta for his contributions and wished him well for the future.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Galliani has brought Bocchetti to a club. Ten years ago, while at AC Milan, Galliani signed Bocchetti on loan from Spartak Moscow for a six-month spell.

The club reportedly considered other high-profile candidates for the position, including 2006 World Cup winners Fabio Cannavaro and Andrea Pirlo, but ultimately decided on Bocchetti.

Nesta’s departure marks the end of his fifth managerial role, having previously coached Miami FC, Perugia, Frosinone, and Reggiana. As Monza looks to turn their season around, all eyes will be on Bocchetti to see if he can lift the team from the relegation zone.
