OFFICIAL: Lecce appoint Marco Giampaolo as new head coach

Start

Lecce have officially announced Marco Giampaolo as their new head coach, marking a significant change in the club’s technical leadership. The former Milan and Sampdoria manager has signed a contract that will keep him at the helm until June 30, 2025, with an automatic renewal clause contingent on the team avoiding relegation.

Giampaolo’s last stint in Serie A was with Sampdoria from January to October 2022, where he managed six wins, three draws, and sixteen losses, with his team scoring 24 goals and conceding 39. He now steps in to replace Luca Gotti, who was dismissed on November 9.

The club’s statement confirmed that Giampaolo will be supported by a comprehensive technical staff, including Francesco Conti as assistant coach, Fabio Micarelli as technical collaborator, and Samuele Melotto as athletic trainer. The team has also retained several key staff members, including Giovanni De Luca for injury recovery, and goalkeeping coaches Raffaele Clemente and Luigi Sassanelli.

Lecce’s decision to bring in Giampaolo reflects their ambition to secure their position in Serie A. The experienced coach is known for his tactical acumen and ability to develop young talent, which could prove crucial for Lecce’s aspirations.

The team is set to resume training tomorrow afternoon at the Via del Mare stadium. Giampaolo will be formally introduced to the press in a conference scheduled for tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM. The presentation will be attended by Club President Saverio Sticchi Damiani, Technical Area Manager Pantaleo Corvino, and Sporting Director Stefano Trinchera.
