Lazio have confirmed the arrival of coach Igor Tudor on a 18-month contract, stepping into the managerial role vacated by Maurizio Sarri’s resignation last week. Sarri’s abrupt departure left the club reeling and in need of a fresh direction after a string of disappointing results.
The decision came in the wake of four consecutive defeats, including a painful exit from the Champions League Round of 16 at the hands of Bayern Munich. With the club in need of a turnaround, Sarri’s assistant manager, Giovanni Martusciello, took charge as caretaker for Saturday’s Serie A victory against Frosinone. However, Tudor’s imminent arrival had already been anticipated.
The Croatian tactician arrived in Rome amid anticipation, with images circulating on social media showing Tudor proudly holding a Lazio scarf at the airport, signaling his commitment to the club’s cause.
At 45, Tudor brings a wealth of coaching experience to the table. His most recent stint was with Olympique Marseille, prior to which he had managerial roles at Verona, Hajduk Split, Udinese, Galatasaray, Karabukspor, and PAOK Salonika. Tudor has also served as an assistant manager for the Croatia national team under Igor Stimac and alongside Andrea Pirlo during his tenure at Juventus in the 2020-21 season.
