Juventus have officially announced the signing of Lloyd Kelly, a versatile and talented defender who joins the Bianconeri to strengthen their backline. The 26-year-old English player arrives on loan from Newcastle United, with his contract binding him to Juventus until June 30, 2025, and includes an obligation to buy clause that will be triggered under certain conditions during the 2024/2025 sporting season.
The initial loan fee for Kelly is set at €3 million, with additional costs of €0.8 million. Should the conditions for the permanent transfer be met, Juventus will pay a further €14.5 million, spread over three financial years, plus €2.7 million in additional fees. The agreement also includes potential bonuses of up to €6.5 million based on the achievement of specific sporting objectives during Kelly’s time with the club.
Given the high probability of the purchase conditions being met, Juventus are treating this transfer as a permanent acquisition from an accounting perspective, with a total value of €17.5 million plus additional costs. The final accounting treatment will be confirmed in the Annual Financial Report as of June 30, 2025.
Kelly’s arrival marks Juventus’ fourth signing of the January transfer window, following the acquisitions of Alberto Costa, Randal Kolo Muani, and Renato Veiga. The defender’s move to Turin comes after a brief spell with Newcastle United, where he joined on a free transfer from Bournemouth in the summer of 2024 but struggled to secure regular playing time.
With his ability to play both as a centre-back and left-back, Kelly brings valuable versatility to Juventus’ defense. His signing addresses the club’s need for defensive reinforcement, particularly in light of Pierre Kalulu’s injury
