Empoli have officially announced the acquisition of Pietro Pellegri on a temporary loan with an option to buy from Torino Football Club. The 23-year-old Italian striker joins the Azzurri to bolster their attacking options for the upcoming season.
Born in Genoa on March 17, 2001, Pellegri rose through the ranks of Genoa’s youth academy. He made his Serie A debut for the Rossoblu in December 2016 at the age of 15, becoming one of the youngest players to feature in Italy’s top flight. In the same season, Pellegri scored his first Serie A goal against Roma, cementing his status as one of the league’s youngest-ever goalscorers.
Pellegri’s promising start attracted international attention, leading to a move to AS Monaco in January 2018. He made his Ligue 1 debut the following month and scored his first goal in the French top division against Bordeaux in the subsequent season.
After a brief spell with AC Milan, Pellegri joined Torino in January 2022, initially on loan before making the move permanent that summer. Over the past two seasons, he has featured in 42 matches for the Granata.
The young striker has represented Italy at various youth levels, including the Under-21 team. He made his senior international debut in November 2020 in a friendly match against Estonia.
